Diflucan (fluconazole) is a prescription drug indicated to treat vaginal yeast infections, including fungal infections. It is also used to treat certain types of candidiasis in women, including thrush (an infection of the vagina).
The usual dose of diflucan is 200-400 mg every other day (approximately every 12 hours). Your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other factors. For vaginal infections, the dosage is 50-100 mg every other day in divided doses. The dosage may be increased to 200 mg every other day in a single day or divided into several doses for the same condition. The total daily dosage strength is usually between 400 mg and 1,200 mg. For thrush infections, the dosage is 50-100 mg every other day in divided doses. The tablet form is usually taken by mouth once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection. It is recommended that you swallow the tablet whole with plenty of water. You should also be instructed to take diflucan at the same time each day. The medication will usually work within 30 minutes to an hour after taking it. It is not recommended that you take it more often than once per day. In the event of an overdose, a medical professional may be contacted to determine the cause of the symptoms of the overdose.
Diflucan is available in tablet form as a fluconazole tablet. The dosage of the tablet is based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may receive a dose that is more than 400 mg daily. If you experience severe abdominal pain or nausea, it is advised that you consult your doctor. They will prescribe you the appropriate dosage based on the severity of your infection.
